Global cases spike to 537,340; death toll rises to 24,136
The US on Friday surpassed
China in the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases. With 85,612 positive tests,
now it has more infected patients than any other country in the world. But
Covid-19-related fatalities in the US (1,301) so far have been way fewer than
in China (3,292), Italy (8,215) and Spain (4,365).
Covid-19 continues to
extend its footprint in India with Tamil Nadu recording six new cases. 5 more
people tested positive in Maharashtra and 2 in Bihar on Friday. The total
number of covid-19 cases in the country have risen to 724, with 17 dead.
Globally, the virus has infected 537,340 and 24,136 people have died so far,
while in India 724 cases have emerged with the death toll rising to 17.
The Reserve Bank of
India (RBI) today slashed key repo rate by 75 basis points (bps) to 4.4 per
cent to bolster economy in the wake of covid-19 menace. Stating that large part
of major global economies are likely to be heading toward recession, the
governor said that economic recovery in 2020 would be shallow. Meanwhile, Delhi
chief minister Arvind Kejriwal prepared a roadmap for potential 'Stage 3'
outbreak.
