India Total cases jump to 169. State-wise figures are here
The total number of novel coronavirus
cases in India rose to 169 today after a record number of fresh cases
reported from the various parts of the country. Maharashtra is the worst
affected state with the maximum number of cases. According to the date released
by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total tally includes 141 Indian
nationals and 25 foreigners.

Three persons infected with the novel coronavirus have
died so far. A 76-year-old man from Kalaburgi was the first casualty of
COVID-19 infection in the country. A 68-year-old woman in Delhi and a
64-year-old man from Mumbai were the other deceased.
Central and state authorities are taking
strong measures and social distancing measures across India to prevent an
explosion of the coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the country as cases rise to
178, with as many as 160 them active. Maharashtra has been the worst hit state
with the total Covid-19 or novel coronavirus cases nearing 50, including a
fatality. So far, the health officials have maintained that there has been no
trace of community transmission in the country and all cases identified are
either contracted from those who have come from abroad or in those who were in
touch with foreigners. As many as 25 foreigners have been tested positive,
which includes — 17 from Italy, 3 from Philippines, one each belonging to
Canada, United Kingdom, Indonesia and Singapore. The preventive measures are
taking a toll on the schedules of airlines, buses and railways and hospitality
industry
